The German-Mexican Energy Partnership and the German-Mexican Climate Change Alliance would like to invite you to the event “Phasing out #IFFS: Realizing multiple benefits of energy subsidy reform: Fiscal, climate and welfare gains” event in Mexico-City on Tuesday, 05.09.2017
In 2009 G20 members committed themselves to the medium-term elimination of inefficient fossil fuel subsidies (IFFS).
In order to deliver on this commitment, it was agreed to undergo a voluntary IFFS peer-review process. After China and the USA as the first countries to engage in peer reviews and finishing their reports in 2016, Mexico and Germany declared themselves willing to be subject to the next round.
In continuation of the first event on 20th July, discussing successful international pathways of reducing IFFS and the current situation in both Mexico and Germany, the objective of this joint event is to discuss the impacts of inefficient subsidies on climate mitigation policies, public finance and distributional effects.
It should provide insights on how to increase policy coherence and economic efficiency in order to contribute to sustainable development and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
